So, my first time to Salsa in 3 years had come (all part of the saying yes more plan). The nerves were kicking in, was I going to show myself up in front of hoards of beautiful women? (cos all the beautiful women in the world do Salsa, or at least I was led to believe by the advert), will they need steel toe boots, or a tin hat coming to think of it (not very co-ordinate you see, may want to move my feet but who's keeping an eye on what my arms are doing!!!). Turned up, one bloke slouched on the sofa and two rather hmmmmm, cuddly ladies, not to mention I was greeted with a Bonjour! (it's Cuban salsa right??). Wasn't sure about this Salsa lark all of a sudden, but sticking with my saying yes plan, I was obliged to stay.....and Tao said we weren't going anywhere. As time went on, more folks turned up and next thing I knew I was stuck at the front of the class in front of a sodding big mirror doing the rumba.
Once all the basics had been learnt, (or at least been taught, I was still struggling with the basic step) partners were introduced. Trying to do the step, count, look at your partner, talk, all at the same time proved a little tricky. At one point I had to apologise to one partner cos I was looking at my feet but didn't want her to think that I was staring uncontrollably at her boobs, thankfully she saw the funny side of it (then I did actually look and she did have great boobs). I was taking this Salsa dancing very seriously but was very disconcerted that one lady couldn't stop laughing at me, something about she had panda eyes cos her mascara had run. She said she was laughing with me and not at me, wasn't convinced, I think she had too many grapes in her wine!
Anyway, it looks like I'll be going next week, was a giggle and got to meet some new peeps!!
