Quick Tutorials 2. Creating hyperlinked text or pictures
11 August 2006 10:57

1. hyperlinking text:
look at the following code:

< a href=" www.mywebsite.com ">this is the name i wish to give this link

nb: ther are spaces after and before the < and > and before and after the " " marks, these must not be there, they only appear here so the code can be visual

here is the affect of inputtign that code correctly:
helpmasters page

2. hyperlinking an externally linked picture:

right so we've looked at how to display a picture anywhere using the code in the first tutorial which can be found here

now we want to make that picture a link to another site or part of this site, here is the code we need to look at:

< a href=" www.mypicturewilllinktothissite.com ">< img src=" sourceofmypicturelocation.com '" border="0"

again the spaces before and after the < and > and the " " marks must be removed for the code to work

"www.mypicturewilllinktothissite.com" - this text which is red in the above referes to the site you wish the picture to link to
"sourceofmypicturelocation.com" --this refers to the source of your picture, i.e. tis location, which was discussed again in the first tutorial here
you should notice that code appears here identically it just has the linking element added to it.
the last part which says border="0" refers to having a border around this picture it is not necessary but you can enter a value here if u wish the picture to have a border.

right so if you enter this code correctly you should have the following effect:

where im displaying a picture of the helpmasters group which i want to link to my group on get weblished:

+ Locate the image u wish to post somewhere on GW

+ Make sure u are viewing just the image on the web browser, (if you are viewing an image on a particular webpage right click and select copy image location if you are using Firefox, or if you are using internet explorer, right click and select view properties, then select the address and right click and select copy.

+ In the post comment box paste the address you just copied within the quotation marks of this code < IMG SRC=""> for example:

Getting Started With GetWeblished
02 August 2006 14:09

So you've made the wise choice and got registered with GetWeblished
well done
Now I'm guessing if you've come here, your feeling a little overwhelmed with the site and need a little help on getting started, well you've come to the right place
so lets start as the say at they beginning
you've just registered with GetWeblished and that little link in the top right corner which says MyGetweblished, is your starting ground ja? well why not open this page in a new window so you can keep me open as well
Not sure how???
don't worry just click file >new>window eh voila I'm open in two windows or if your more of a keyboard type just click ctrl - n and there you have it
right in that other window you have open click MyGetweblished (if your are not logged in you will be prompted to enter the email addy and password that you signed up with - once you're logged in just click on MyGetweblished again
and lets have a look at all the things you can do from here
Right you're other window should have a screen that looks a little something like this:

Well for starters I'm pretty sure it would be a lot nicer if you had a nice stunning picture of yourself rather than a blank white space that says no picture? What you reckon? Ok don't worry it's not rocket science and I reckon if you follow these steps really carefully you'll have a foxy picture of yourself up on your profile in under 5 minutes

All you have to do is:
+ click on "your pictures page" which is right next to that ugly white box with the "no picture"text. now click the browse button

+ locate the photograph you wish to use on your computer's hard
drive (Maximum file size is 4000 KB and these file types are
accepted: JPG, GIF, TIFF and BMP)

+ add a short caption in the space provided.

+ click upload, and your profile pic will appear as a thumbnail
below!

Remember you can change your default/primary profile photograph at any time, by selecting the "make primary" button underneath the photo. But by default the first photo you upload will become your primary photograph.

Easy as ey??

Right lets go back to mygetweblished now, looking good looking good
Now you'll probably noticed you've got one friend in your friend space, this is Miss V, your default friend on GetWeblished and a great place to start cuz you'll find links to me there if you get lost and need help, now don't get me wrong she's a grand friend to have on your list and all but let's face it you need more than one friend. So lets get invite some people to getweblished and make ourselves look a little more popular ey?

This part is even easier

+ click on the invite a friend button just in the my friends area

+ if you already have an address book with one of the email providers listed on the far right select the provider and enter your log in details for that account, GW will automatically generate a list of all your contacts and you can pick which ones you want to send invites to
pretty nifty eh

+ what if I don't have an address book or e-mail accounts with any of these providers? Don't panic as long as you know some e-mail addy's of your mates all you have to do is enter them in that box at the bottom (you can put as many as you like, just be sure to separate them with a coma) add an optional message if you like above.
For instance
"yo hommies,
Im down with the GetWeblished kru now innit? Come register and check out my swanky profile" ok so you don't really have to write something like that but you get the idea

+ now click invite and you'll be on your way to getting your mates on and looking like mr or ms popular in no time

Right that's enough to get you moving for now there is more to come
And fear not there will be a nice concise faq list on the way too in the mean time if your stuck on anything be sure to contact me
Happy weblishing
